He expresses his appreciation for the encouraging comments from Carswell regarding his work promising to continue his efforts to eliminate waste.

A letter addressed to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Tom Connally, United States Senate, dated April 24, 1952. Connally expresses his appreciation for the kind and generous comments by Carswell with regard to his announcement that he will not be a candidate for re-election and advises of an attached copy of a statement regarding his reasons for his decision.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from John Ben Shepperd, Attorney at Law, Austin, Texas, dated April 28, 1952. Shepperd announces that he is leaving the Secretary of State's office on May 1st and is seeking a promotion to the Attorney Generalship of Texas advising that this will be his first political race and, therefore, sincerely needs and wants Carswell's "help, counsel and active support".

A letter written to Governor Allan Shivers, Austin, Texas, from T. N. Carswell, dated August 27, 1952. Carswell gives his views as to the present political situation and suggests, if it is legally possible, that he would like to see two (2) sets of Electors on the Democratic ballot; one set agreeable to the National Democratic Nominees, and the other set "for the tidelands" (Eisenhower-Nixon). Carswell states that he would like to vote a straight Democratic ticket but "if I must, in order to repudiate a high handed steal openly accomplished and thinly veiled in legality by a spurious dictum - Paramount Rights - spawned for the purpose by a "Charlie McCarthy" minority of the United States Supreme Court —I shall mark out the electors on the Democratic ballot and vote for the Electors on the Republican ballot".

A letter written to Mr. Joe Kimble, American National Bank, Amarillo, Texas, from T. N. Carswell, dated August 29, 1952. Carswell identifies himself as a Delegate to the convention and requests a room at the Herring, Amarillo or Capitol, mentions a mutual friend, Mr. W. E. Fraley, or Jess Rogers noting he wrote the Democratic Housing committee two weeks back and received no reply.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Price Daniel, The State of Texas, Office of the Attorney General, Austin, dated November 13, 1952. Daniel expresses his appreciation for the letter from Carswell concerning the election and congratulates Carswell on his contribution to the victory.

A postcard from Pat McCarran, United States Senate, Committee on the Judiciary, addressed to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, postmarked WASHINGTON, D. C. APR 28 1952. The reverse side includes a printed form letter by The United States Senate, Committee on the Judiciary. "This acknowledges receipt of your recent communication concerning a nomination pending before the United States Senate Judiciary Committee or a Subcommittee thereof." Explanation regarding the procedure concerning filing communications into the nominee's file and sending a printed form to assure the sender of the receipt of the communication, in order that the file will be complete and available at all times for the study of the committees.

A letter written to Dr. Jenkins, Dr. Sullivan, Bro. Price, and Messrs. Taylor and May from T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas dated May 8, 1952. Carswell discusses the proposal made to keep the record of donors to the Hospital available for public perusal.

A letter written to Committee Members for Hendrick Memorial Hospital, Abilene, Texas from T. N. Carswell, dated June 5, 1952. The letter includes a notification by Carswell of a Committee meeting to be held on June 12 and a list of ideas pertaining to permanently recording names of contributors to Hendrick Memorial Hospital.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas from Tate May, President, The Farmers and Merchants National Bank dated June 7, 1952. May acknowledges his receipt of the letter from Carswell notifying him of a meeting and dinner to be held on June 12 and accepts the invitation.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas from Jas. L. Sullivan, Pastor, First Baptist Church, Abilene, Texas dated June 9, 1952. Sullivan advises Carswell of a previous engagement that makes it impossible to attend the dinner and meeting on June 12.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas from E. M. Collier, Administrator, Hendrick Memorial Hospital dated June 10, 1952. Collier replies to the letter from Carswell dated June 5 in which he discusses ideas for permanently recording the names of contributors to Hendrick Memorial Hospital but interjects, "The more I think of this project, the more I realize there is a great deal of danger in what we are about to do."

A letter written to Committee Members Jenkins, Sullivan, Price, May, Taylor, Carswell from T. N. Carswell, Chairman dated June 19, 1952. Carswell advises of the committee proposal regarding donars to the Hospital. There is a handwritten note by Carswell advising that on June 27, 1952 the committee decided to report 'no plan recommendation' and ask for discharge.

Carswell, Chairman., Taylor County, Texas, Parole Board, dated January 17, 1952. Carswell submits the requested information to Burkhart in behalf of Subject requesting that any omissions be noted. He confirms that the required advertising is running in San Bernadino .

Carswell advises Gordon that he supports the request made by Subject for a Commutation of Sentence and a Full Pardon and Restoration.

Wattenbarger advises Carswell of the policy requiring the publishing of a Notice of Intention to Apply for Executive Clemency in California.

A letter written to a parolee in Abilene, Texas from E. A. Burkhart, Executive Secretary, Adult Authority, Sacramento 14, California, dated January 28, 1952. Burkhart acknowledges receipt of two questionnaires completed by Subject and other papers, all found to be satisfactory, and assumes an Affidavit of Publication will be sent at the expiration of the 30 day period. He expresses his appreciation for the promptness of Subject in attending to the details of the matter.

A letter written to Mr. L. C. Harris, Chairman, Board of Pardons and Paroles, Texas, from T. N. Carswell, Chairman dated April 2, 1952. The letter contains a confirmation by Carswell of a telephone conversation with Harris verifying Subject as a driller at Gilchrist Drilling Co. citing his work as satisfactory.

A form letter addressed to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Chairman, Taylor County Parole Board, from John Ben Shepperd, Administrator, Interstate Parole Compact (by Pauline Kirk, Chief, Parole Division,) Department of State, Texas, dated April 16, 1952. Kirk requests the delivery by Carswell to Subject 121,140 of the enclosed proclamations and, also, that Carswell file a copy. The enclosures includes two copies of a proclamation by the Governor of the State of Texas granting a ten-day extension of emergency reprieve to Subject No. 121,140, dated April 11, 1952 by Allan Shivers, Governor of Texas and John Ben Shepperd, Secretary of State.
