Letter from [Ferdinand Louis Huth] to H[enri] Castro regarding difficulties with some laborers. The election resulted in five men being chosen as Colonel, Lt. Colonel, Captain and 1st and 2nd Lieutenants. He also shares that an axle was broken on a cart and it has not rained. Pages 210, verso, and 211, recto, of letter book. Page 211, verso, of letter book contains various small segments of letters and notes.

Letter from H[enri] Castro to [Ferdinand] Louis Huth wishing him a happy new year and discussing their third expedition. He informs Huth that Bischops, Basting and de Bake have joined the enterprise and that he expects to depart for Texas on April 1st.

Also on same page, the beginning of another letter to Castro, written 1844/12/13. Page 203, verso, of letter book. Continuation of letter from [Ferdinand Louis Huth] to [Henri] Castro explaining troubles with hired help and relating that the wagons carrying bacon and meal finally arrived after he had to hire someone else to transport the goods. Huth also states that he received a letter from Dreher, who was feared dead, and that he will be returning. Pages 203 (recto), 204, and 205 (recto) of letter book.

Letter from [Ludwig] Huth to [Ferdinand] Louis [Huth] regarding Casette's refusal to marry. He also tells him that he is sending Philipp Schneider, a gardener, at his own expense and that he is to work Huth's land until his passage is repaid. Mr. Reigert is taking grape sprouts to Texas and hopes to make wine. At the end is a short letter from August [Huth] to [Ferdinand] Louis [Huth] regarding two boxes of wicker and that Maas has gotten married.

Letter from El. Martin to [Ferdinand] L[oui]s Huth hoping that he has arrived safely at his destination and discussing the prospects for the success of Castroville. Signed El. Martin on January 15, 1844 in Galveston.

Letter from [Ludwig] Huth to [Ferdinand] Louis [Huth] regarding Schneider and enclosing the agreement with him that he will work the land in Texas in order to pay off his passage. He also mentions Kramp and his emigrants and the current expedition of 21 Swiss emigrants. Postscript states that Schneider can shear sheep.

Letter from H. A. Cobb to [Ferdinand] L[ouis] Huth regarding the arrival of the Heinrich and 137 emigrants, 77 of them bound for Castroville. He also states that there are several chests with table linens and straw hats. Signed H. A. Cobb on March 12, 1844 in Galveston.

Letter from August [Huth] to [Ferdinand] Louis [Huth] introducing Mr. Gaubault and Mr. Gaitan.

Letter from August [Huth] to [Ferdinand] Louis [Huth] informing him that he has spoken to Castro about the terrible position Louis found himself in when he arrived in Galveston and did not find any agents awaiting him. He lets Louis know that if things don't work out in Texas, he is welcome to come back.

Letter from [Ludwig] Huth to [Ferdinand] Louis [Huth] informing him that Maas wanted to leave on the Ocean but met a woman and got married and so will be leaving on the Marie Jeannette. He states that the new batch of emigrants is full of good hardworking people.

Letter from [Ferdinand Louis Huth] to [Henri] Castro explaining the need for more oxen and another wagon. He quotes a letter from Elliot regarding cash and discusses the families moving out of the barn into houses. Also contains letter to Dr. Cupples regarding the need for him to pay back the cash advanced to him. Pages 206 (verso), 207, and 208 (recto) of letter book.

Letter from [Ferdinand Louis Huth] to [Henri] Castro. He first discusses the states of finances relating to Elliot and Callaghan and laments that he has not enough cash to purchase the necessary supplies but he states that he purchased two cows and a wagon. He also says that Mr. Solms and his wife have arrived and will be getting their fathers to come also. Also, letter to W. Elliot regarding two dollars' worth of bacon. Also, document regarding their lack of flour and asking someone to bring some next week. Pages 208 (verso), 209, and 210 (recto) of letter book.

Receipt for 15 bushels meal and 686 lbs. bacon from Higgenbotham. Receipt for 12 bushels meal Elliot furnished Higgenbotham. Note to ask Elliot for one sack salt at first opportunity.
