Carswell expresses his regrets at not seeing Maisel at Wellington and describes the convention events in which he participated. He advises that he has sent his committee nominations and that he will attempt a little membership campaign on his own during December assuring that the extra cost will be justified.

Maisel advises of the duty as 5th Division Commander to serve one more year on the Department Membership Committee suggesting that Carswell resign and send to him the name of someone to take his place then appoint his membership chairman which would set two working at the job.
