[Letter from R. D. Hill to T. N. Carswell - July 4, 1950]

A letter written to Mr. Carswell, from R. D. Hill, Casa Grande Lodge, Albuquerque, New Mexico, dated July 4, 1950. Hill outlines his business travel itinerary and monologues on politics venturing the guess that 'barring the effects of the Korean situation' that much of his business will be accomplished within the next six months. He advises that Mr. Sproul has been testing bottling coffee for distribution under the name of ICEKOFA. Hill advises of the potential need for a stockpile of metals when "things get moving" and politically philosophizes "Were F. D. R. still alive he would be forced to admit having been a dam-fool or heluvaliar?" He then notes that it is also of interest that the people of this country are experiencing GREAT prosperity yet according to the news every person is "on the cuff" for $1,704.50. Handwritten postscript at top left of page is an apology for the lack of time to "write at length".

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene Machine Company, from R. D. Hill, Bend, Oregon, dated July 28, 1950. Hill explains that an enclosed C/C [cashier's check] is to reimburse for the rental on P. O. Box 1032. Hill outlines his business travel itinerary and monologues on politics advising that the recent "hostile involvings" may retard business progress. "It might be that we presently have a fully DEVELOPED Kingfish 'Huey Long' set-up?" Hill handwrites postcript at bottom of page sending regards to all. Notation at top of page indicates a reply by Carswell on October 17, 1950.

Letter from Robert Aguilar, Jr., Chaplain of American Legion Post "Lazaro Pena 631" in Rosenberg, Texas, to John Herrera, with a handwritten date of July, 1950. The letter originally had an enclosure of a newspaper clipping dated July 14, 1950 from The Fort Bend Reporter of Rosenberg, Texas. Apparently this newspaper article was an open letter in which segregation issues were discussed. The American Legion Post members felt that an answer should be written in response and were turning to LULAC for advice.

This is responding to a request for advice on answering a letter published in the newspaper. Herrera indicates he has drafted an answer to be submitted to the newspaper and will read the original letter on his Saturday morning radio show. He also encourages the men of the Latin American Legion Post to consider forming a LULAC Council in Rosenberg.

Onionskin paper carbon copy of letter from John J. Herrera, LULAC First National Vice-President, to Mrs. Lassie Jackson of Rosenberg, Texas, dated July 20, 1950. This is a response to Jackson's letter which was published in the Rosenberg Herald and The Texas Coaster pertaining to her objections to the banning of the "Czech Hour" on the radio station. Apparently in her letter she referred to Latin Americans of her community as Communists. Herrera is answering on behalf of the Latin American citizenry of Fort Bend County.

Bertig to Jeane Bertig Kempner discussing Mrs. Kempner's upcoming trip to Plantersville and telling her not to expect him as he is too sick, but that Bill would meet her in St. Louis or Memphis. Bertig then comments on tensions between Russia and the United States saying that it must be settled whether that be by World War III or otherwise. Mr. Bertig then says there has been good growing weather, but they could use a little rain. Finally, he mentions that Mary Jean Kempner sent him a letter from Canada alerting him that she was sending a shipment of Salmon.
