Comparison between phase shift derived and exactly calculated nucleon--nucleon interaction matrix elements. [Tables]

A comparison is made between matrix elements calculated using the uncoupled channel Sussex approach to second order in DWBA and matrix elements calculated using a square well potential. The square well potential illustrated the problem of the determining parameter independence balanced with the concept of phase shift difference. The supersoft core potential was used to discuss the systematics of the Sussex approach as a function of angular momentum as well as the relation between Sussex generated and effective interaction matrix elements. In the uncoupled channels the original Sussex method of extracting effective interaction matrix elements was found to be satisfactory. In the coupled channels emphasis was placed upon the /sup 3/S/sub 1/-/sup 3/D/sub 1/ coupled channel matrix elements. Comparison is made between exactly calculated matrix elements, and matrix elements derived using an extended formulation of the coupled channel Sussex method. For simplicity the potential used is a nonseparable cut-off oscillator. The eigenphases of this potential can be made to approximate the realistic nucleon-nucleon phase shifts at low energies. By using the cut-off oscillator test potential, the original coupled channel Sussex method of determining parameter independence was shown to be incapable of accurately reproducing the exact cut-off oscillator matrix elements. High statistics study of omega$sup 0$ production at 6 GeV/c

The spin-projected cross sections for $omega$$sup 0$ production at 6 GeV/ c were measured in a counter-spark chamber experiment at the Zero Gradient Synchrotron of Argonne National Laboratory. Results are presented for a sample of 25,000 $omega$$sup 0$ events, and critical tests are shown for any residual background. The reaction is dominated by the s-channel natural-parity helicity one projection (rho$sub 11$ + rho/sub 1-1) dsigma/dt which shows a turnover in the forward direction and no strong dip at t = 0.6 (GeV/c)$sup 2$. The unnatural- parity helicity-zero cross section rho$sub 00$ dsigma/dt shows no forward turnover suggesting a sizeable helicity-nonflip contribution. Comparisons are made with the predictions of a Regge exchange model with absorptive corrections. (auth)

Absolute Continuity and the Integration of Bounded Set Functions (open access)

Absolute Continuity and the Integration of Bounded Set Functions

The first chapter gives basic definitions and theorems concerning set functions and set function integrals. The lemmas and theorems are presented without proof in this chapter. The second chapter deals with absolute continuity and Lipschitz condition. Particular emphasis is placed on the properties of max and min integrals. The third chapter deals with approximating absolutely continuous functions with bounded functions. It also deals with the existence of the integrals composed of various combinations of bounded functions and finitely additive functions. The concluding theorem states if the integral of the product of a bounded function and a non-negative finitely additive function exists, then the integral of the product of the bounded function with an absolutely continuous function exists over any element in a field of subsets of a set U.
