Actinomycetes are able to utilize a great variety of carbohydrates, like sugar. The particular kind of sugar and its concentration has decisive effect on the growth of microorganisms. The proper nutritional media aids also in the production of spores. Based on this generalization, that the growth and sporulation of microorganisms are greatly influenced by the nature and the concentration of carbohydrates, an attempt has been made to study Actinoplanes philippinensis with respect to this influence.

The purpose of this thesis is to consider three opposing statements regarding aesthetics in our popular culture. The first statement is that the youth of this age are demolishing the old standards of aesthetic taste and are creating a nonaesthetic; the second statement is that the youth are enlarging the vision and scope of the accepted standard of aesthetic and changing its direction; the thrid statement is that the creations of the youth in our popular culture of today are neither new nor nonaesthetic, but merely a continuation of aesthetics as they are accepted. This study was concerned with determining the effectiveness of play therapy as measured by behavioral changes in interpersonal relationships, mature behavior patterns, and more adequate use of intellectual capacities. Client-centered play therapy appears to have grown out of the concept that it is the relationship between the therapist and the child that brings about change and growth. Rather than diagnostic or as preliminary to therapy, the relationship itself is seen as therapy. Problems are seen not in terms of their historical past, but rather as they exist in the immediate present and in terms of the child's own means of expression. The relationship offers to the child the opportunity to experience growth under the most favorable conditions. Like its adult counterpart, client-centered counseling, client-centered play therapy is based upon the hypotheses that the individual has within himself the capacity for growth and self-direction, and that these growth impulses are released within the therapeutic relationship established between the therapist and the child. Is it possible that the Bender-Gestalt (B-G) protocol of an individual is complex of many different, discrete, perceptual tests? Is it possible to find the relationships among the scoring factors for the B-G and by factor analysis find some systematic order among the individual designs useful in predicting specific behavioral propensities? If a consistent relationship can be shown to exist between scorable deviations on the B-G designs and certain personality variables among individuals, then perhaps a start can be made toward predictive validity of the B-G.

An attempt was made to study scientifically teacher attitudes as measured by an adaptation of the Purdue Teacher Opinionaire administered to a systematically observed sample chosen from three church school faculties in the three Southern Baptist Churches in Denton, Texas.

The purpose of this study was to investigate, through stylistic analysis, the choral problems in twelve selected choruses from George Frederick Handel's oratorio, Messiah. The twelve choruses were selected for analysis in this study after consultation with several authorities in the field of choral music and on the basis that they are representative of problems encountered in the remaining choruses. Each of the twelve choruses was analyzed individually. Chapter I of this study presents the purpose of the study, the sub-problems involved, definitions of terms, delimitations, the basic hypothesis of the study, the basic assumptions of the study, methodology and the plan of the report. Chapter II of this study contains a brief biographical sketch of Handel, a discussion of the circumstances surrounding the composition of Messiah, and a survey of the Handelian oratorio Chorus. Chapter III presents the results of the analysis relevant to a discussion of each of the twelve choruses followed by a sectional presentation of the choral problems. In Chapter IV, a summary, some conclusions and recommendations are offered. Appendices A and B present reviews of selected recordings and vocal-piano editions of Messiah respectively.

This study was undertaken to make a comparative analysis of selected nonintellective characteristics of intellectually superior female students who persisted and those who did not persist in an Advanced Placement Program offering sequentially planned course offerings in mathematics and science. A second dimension of the study was an investigation of selected nonintellective traits to determine if the students' scores are elevated in the same direction as those of superior female adults who have been studied on essentially the same dimensions.

This study made a comparative analysis of certain selected characteristics of a group of academically able male youth who persisted and those who did not persist in a five-year academic sequence in mathematics and science. Two major questions were dealt with in this study: 1. Can the persisting youth as a group be distinguished from those youth who did not persist in this academic sequence on the basis of their functioning in certain nonintellective areas? 2. It is hoped that the findings uncovered by this study will be of help to others interested in investigating and exploring this area.
