Tagged Neutron Source for API Inspection Systems with Greatly Enhanced Spatial Resolution
We recently developed induced fission and transmission imaging methods with time- and directionally-tagged neutrons offer new capabilities for characterization of fissile material configurations and enhanced detection of special nuclear materials (SNM). An Advanced Associated Particle Imaging (API) generator with higher angular resolution and neutron yield than existing systems is needed to fully exploit these methods.

Taking the initiative. A leadership conference for women in science and engineering
The conference sprang from discussions on the current climate that women face in science, mathematics, engineering, and technology. The conference (and this document) is a beginning, not a culmination, of women`s learning leadership skills. Conferees were active, articulate, energetic, and ready to learn leadership qualities, some of which seem universal, others that appear to require skills in specific fields. After the introduction, the workshops and presentations are arranged under vision and direction, barriers, alignment and communication, and motivation and inspiration. Some statistics are presented on women degrees and employment in various fields.

Tandem mirror theory workshop
The workshop was divided into three sections which were constituted according to subject matter: RF Heating, MHD Equilibrium and Stability, and Transport and Microstability. An overview from Livermore's point of view was given at the beginning of each session. Each session was assigned a secretary to take notes. These notes have been used in preparing this report on the workshop. The report includes the activities, conclusions, and recommendations of the workshop.

Tandem Terminal Ion Source
OAK-B135 Tandem Terminal Ion Source. The terminal ion source (TIS) was used in several experiments during this reporting period, all for the {sup 7}Be({gamma}){sup 8}B experiment. Most of the runs used {sup 1}H{sup +} at terminal voltages from 0.3 MV to 1.5 MV. One of the runs used {sup 2}H{sup +} at terminal voltage of 1.4 MV. The other run used {sup 4}He{sup +} at a terminal voltage of 1.37 MV. The list of experiments run with the TIS to date is given in table 1 below. The tank was opened four times for unscheduled source repairs. On one occasion the tank was opened to replace the einzel lens power supply which had failed. The 10 kV unit was replaced with a 15 kV unit. The second time the tank was opened to repair the extractor supply which was damaged by a tank spark. On the next occasion the tank was opened to replace a source canal which had sputtered away. Finally, the tank was opened to replace the discharge bottle which had been coated with aluminum sputtered from the exit canal.

[Teacher enhancement at Supercomputing `96]
The SC`96 Education Program provided a three-day professional development experience for middle and high school science, mathematics, and computer technology teachers. The program theme was Computers at Work in the Classroom, and a majority of the sessions were presented by classroom teachers who have had several years experience in using these technologies with their students. The teachers who attended the program were introduced to classroom applications of computing and networking technologies and were provided to the greatest extent possible with lesson plans, sample problems, and other resources that could immediately be used in their own classrooms. The attached At a Glance Schedule and Session Abstracts describes in detail the three-day SC`96 Education Program. Also included is the SC`96 Education Program evaluation report and the financial report.

Tests of structure functions using leptons at CDF: W asymmetry and Drell-Yan production
The charge asymmetry as a function of lepton rapidity, A(y{sub l}), has been measured at {radical}s = 1.8 TeV for {vert_bar}y{sub l}{vert_bar} < 1.8, using the W decays to electrons and muons recorded by CDF during the 1992-1993 run of the Tevatron Collider. The luminosity used, approximately 20 pb{sup {minus}1}, and detector improvements resulted in a seven fold increase in statistics relative to the 1988-1989 data. The increased statistics in the 1992-1993 data allow for discrimination between sets of modern parton distribution functions. The results of this analysis demonstrate the value of collider data in the measurement of the proton`s structure. In addition, the Drell-Yan cross section has been measured using {approximately} 4 pb{sup {minus}1} of dielectron and {approximately} 2.5 pb{sup {minus}1} of dimuon data taken during the 1988-1989 run. These measurements probe the quark distributions to x < 0.01 at high Q{sup 2} where nonperturbative effects are minimal. Studies of Drell-Yan production in the {approximately} 20 pb{sup {minus}1} data from the 1992-1993 run are currently underway.
