Oral History Interview with Albert Lawrence Wile, January 31, 2015

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with Albert Lawrence Wile. Wile joined the Army in 1943. He completed Cook School, and worked as a cook at Fort Meade and Fort Eustis. In late 1944, he traveled to Cherbourg, France and Belgium, working with the 1591st Labor Supervision Company. He assisted with coordinating German companies in cleaning up after the war, rebuilding roads and picking up artillery shells. Wile continued in the Army after the war, completing 30 years of service in the military.

Oral History Interview with Adrian Miller, August 3, 2001

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Adrian Miller. Miller was born in Winamac, Indiana 16 November 1924 and graduated from high school in 1942. He entered the Army in March, 1944 and took his basic training at Ft. Blanding, Florida. He volunteered for the paratroopers at Fort Benning, Georgia and describes the six weeks of rigorous training, which included jumps. In November, he joined the 101st Army Airborne and was assigned to the 505th Parachute Infantry, Company H. Miller was sent to Bastogne and describes the conditions and the high casualty rate. After being relieved in January he went to Lorraine, France, then to Berchtesgaden, Germany where he met his brother. Miller was in Paris when Germany surrendered. On 15 December 1945, he returned to the United States on the Queen Mary. He was discharged January 1946.

A leaf from a Book of Hours, in Latin, with a full-page illumination of Pentecost (Bruges, ca. 1460). The illustration is enclosed by a wide and ornate bar frame in pink and blue with gold tracery, the frame outlined in burnished gold with floral cornerpieces in colors and gold, the whole within a full floral border filled with blue, pink, and red flowers, with blue and gold acanthus leaves and green buds and leaves as well as many tiny burnished gold dots. The Virgin and the Apostles gathered in a large room with much architectural detail--blue, green, and gold columns, gray stone walls, mullioned windows, vaulted blue and red ceilings, and an intricately detailed blue and pink tiled floor, as golden rays of light shine through an open window.

First Observations from an Analysis of KM Job Adverts from English-Speaking Countries and Germany

This paper presents the first results from an analysis of recent job advertisements from online platforms from English and German-speaking countries. The full texts of about 4100 job adverts carrying the terms “knowledge manager” or “knowledge management” either in in the job title or in the short description have been analyzed. The main research aim was to identify the most common KM job titles, providing a basis for further analysis of tasks and required competencies to compare the data samples. In particular, the research will address the following research questions: RQ1: What are the job titles used in job adverts related to KM? RQ2: Which tasks are mainly associated with different KM job titles (roles)? RQ3: Which competencies & skill sets are typically required in job adverts? This research inform KM practitioners and HR managers as well as the KM community about landscape of KM roles, main tasks and skills required on the labor markets in the German-speaking (AU, CH, DE) countries and three English-speaking (AUS, UK, USA) countries.
