The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with James G Rabalais. Rabalais joined the Army in 1943 and volunteered for parachute school. He joined the 188th Parachute Regiment in the Philippines, training on bazookas and flamethrowers while there. He was assigned to patrol jungle areas and never encountered any enemies. In preparation for the invasion of Japan, he made test jumps out of modified B-24 bomb bays; normally, he would jump from C-46 Commandos and C-54 Skymasters. After the surrender, he was instructed to scale a mountain in Japan with the goal of contacting people on the other side, but the snow was too deep. Rabalais returned home and was discharged in 1946.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Harry Maclin. Maclin was a pre-med student when Pearl Harbor was attacked. Two of his childhood friends perished aboard USS Arizona (BB-39). Maclin was moved to sign up for the Navy, and joined the V-12 program. In June 1944, he contracted the mumps and was quarantined at Balboa Naval Hospital. Upon recovery, he was assigned to USS Coral Sea (CVE-57), later renamed the Anzio, as a hospital corpsman, assisting in surgeries such as appendectomies. While sailing through Typhoon Cobra, Maclin was impressed by a religious shipmate's ability to remain calm. He later joined the man's Bible group, which met in a storeroom aboard ship. Maclin would later become a missionary, spending 20 years in Africa after surviving kamikazes at Iwo Jima and Okinawa.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Robert Hilburn. Hilburn joined the Marine Corps after he graduated from journalism school. He describes his time in boot camp at Paris Island. Hilburn received some assistance from a congressman who recommended he be placed in a correspondent role. He was sent to headquarters in Washington D.C. where he began writing stories about marines who had been awarded medals for home town newspapers. Hilburn was then sent to the 2nd Marine Division to become a Combat Correspondent. He describes some of his fellow correspondents and the equipment that they used. Hilburn landed on Okinawa towards the end of the battle and describes being with General Buckner when he was killed. He also traveled to Nagasaki after the surrender. Hilburn left the service after the war, but continued his career as a journalist. He was in a press vehicle that was part of the motorcade when John F. Kennedy was assassinated. Hilburn describes the events and aftermath.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with Ralph Larry Kiggins. Kiggins recalls his experiences through the Great Depression. He joined the Navy in April of 1944. He served as a deckhand aboard the USS Jefferson County (USS LST-845). They traveled to Hawaii in March of 1945 to unload cargo and complete amphibious training operations. In late 1945, they supported occupation landings on Japan and the Philippines. Kiggins continued his service after the war ended, receiving his discharge in mid-1946.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with Julian Allen Roadman. Roadman joined the Army Air Forces in the Fall of 1942. He served as a B-17G Aircraft Commander with the 401st Bomb Group, 612th Bomb Squadron. They deployed to England in late 1943. He completed 34 bombing missions over Germany, including tactical missions during the Battle of the Bulge. Roadman continued his service after the war, retiring from the Reserves in 1983.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Joseph H. Fulcher. Fulcher enlisted in the Army in 1941, trained in Tucson, Arizona and was attending a technical school in Tulsa, Oklahoma when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. When Fulcher was assigned to a unit he shipped out to England in October, 1942 to RAF Bassingbourn, north of London. Fulcher served as an aircraft mechanic and worked on B-17s and other aircraft repairing propellors. He shares several anecdotes related to his service and the type of work he did in the squadron. Between V-E and V-J days, Fulcher arrived back in the US. Before he could be shipped to the Pacific, the war ended and he was discharged. Six months later, he re-enlisted and was sent to Alaska as part of the 46th Recon Squadron in Fairbanks. He continued in the service and was assigned to temporary duty on Okinawa during the Korean War. Fulcher stayed in the service for his career and retired in 1963.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with David Palmer. Palmer joined the Army Air Forces in August of 1942. He completed preflight, primary flight and ground school. From August through December of 1944, Palmer served as a second lieutenant pilot aboard a Curtiss C-46 Commando transporting B-29 engines and other cargo from Miami to Cairo, Egypt. This was a four-day round trip, which he made 3-4 times per month. In January of 1945 he was transferred to a base in India, and flew the Hump to China. He returned to the US in October of 1945. Palmer was discharged in December of 1946.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with John Crooker. Crooker joined the Navy on 6 December 1941. He served as an officer (ensign to lieutenant commander), stationed in 1944 and 1945 in New Guinea, and as an intelligence briefer for Admiral T.C. Kinkaid, Commander, Seventh Fleet, on the USS Wasatch (AGC-9) and in the Philippine Islands. He participated in the Leyte and Lingayen Gulf operations from October of 1944 through August of 1945. He was discharged from active duty in October of 1945.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Robert Vickers. Vickers was born in Adams Mill, Ohio 20 February 1924. Joining the Army Air Forces in November 1942, he was sent to Keesler Field, Mississippi for basic training. He was then sent to Mississippi State College then the Cadet Classification Center in San Antonio. He received preflight training prior to being sent to Garner Field, Uvalde, Texas for flight training by civilian instructors. Vickers describes some of his experiences while flying the PT-19 primary trainer. He recalls being sent to Waco, Texas and describes the training he received flying the BT-13. Upon completion of the course he was sent to twin engine advanced school at Blackland Airfield at Waco. He received his wings and commission in April 1944, and was sent to Liberal, Kansas for B-24 bomber training. Upon completion, Vickers received orders to Gowen Field, Boise, Idaho for combat crew training. In October 1944 the crew went aboard the USS Washington (BB-56) bound for Liverpool, England. He was assigned to the 8th Air Force, 392nd Bomb Group, 578th Bomb Squadron stationed at Wendling, England. Vickers flew thirty combat missions. In recalling some, he tells of …

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with Robert Mullen. Mullen joined the Army Air Forces in January of 1943. He served as a nose gunner aboard a B-17 with the 2nd Bomb Group, 429th Bomb Squadron, 15th Air Force. He deployed to Italy in June of 1944, and completed 35 missions, including one over marshalling yards in Salzburg, Austria. Mullen received the Distinguished Flying Cross.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with Martin Harris. Harris was born in Japan in 1923. He moved to the US to attend college. The war broke out and he joined the Navy. He completed Navy Language School. In April of 1944 he was transferred to the Joint Intelligence Center of Pacific Ocean Area (JICPOA) under the direction of CINCPAC. He worked as a translator of documents. In May of 1944, he was selected for the Naval Civil Affairs Unit and deployed to Saipan. He shares his experience living and working on the island. He returned to Hawaii in May of 1945, and was assigned to the Interrogation Department at Pearl Harbor. After the war ended, and Harris was discharged, he remained in the reserves.

Interview with Gretchen Broun Stacy, the daughter of the owners of Camp Rio Vista, from Houston, Texas. Stacy gives a brief history of her life, including her time living in Houston before moving to Kerrville as a freshman in high school, setting up a cooking school at Camp Waldemar, and running a catering business.

Audio cassette from The Black Academy of Arts and Letters recorded during the 14th Annual Black Music and the Civil Rights Movement Concert, Musical Reflection- 20 Years Later...A Spiritual Jubilee. The tape includes choral singers and was recorded at the Meyerson Symphony Center.

This recording is a part of the radio series “Toscanini: The Man Behind the Legend,” which was a tribute to conductor Arturo Toscanini. The broadcasts consist of music performed by the NBC Orchestra as well as interviews with composers, conductors, orchestra members, and other people associated with Toscanini. This segment includes performances of Gluck's Overture to Iphigenia in Aulis, Dukas's The Sorcerer's Apprentice and Brahms's Concerto for Violin and Cello.
