The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with Richard Abe. Abe’s wife Yukiko is helping with this interview. Abe was born 29 May 1934 in Ewa, Hawaii, to Japanese immigrant parents. His father was the supervisor of the Ewa Sugar Plantation. He and his family were living on the island, 8 miles west of Pearl Harbor, when the Japanese attacked. Abe was 7 years old at the time, and he provides vivid details of his experiences, witnessing the bombing of military installations, being confined to his house, blackouts and his parents being directed to destroy any documents written in Japanese. From 1956 through 1958, Abe served in the US Army, 4th Infantry Division.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Louis Justin. Justin volunteered for service in the Army Air Forces in March, 1943 and took the photography course in Denver. He went overseas to Tinian in November, 1944 where he worked in the photo lab developing images. On Tinian, he developed the film from the Enola Gay. After the war, Young returned to the US in January and received his discharge in February. Justin has some help during the interview from his daughter.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Russell Santora. Santora was born in Bronx, New York on 4 October 1927. Upon joining the US Merchant Marine in July 1944, he attended boot camp at the US Maritime Training Station. When the training was completed he was sent to Oakland, California. There, he joined the Marine Fireman, Oilers and Water Tenders Union and received his Permit Book and was assigned to a merchant ship. He tells of his duties aboard the various ships to which he was assigned and recalls various trips he made to Iwo Jima, Okinawa and Japan.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with James Procter. Procter volunteered for the Navy in 1944. He was assigned to the gunnery division on the USS Hornet (CV-12). Procter was aboard when the Hornet was supporting at Okinawa. He describes the operation of the 5-inch gun and going through a typhoon that heavily damaged the flight deck. Procter remained aboard after the surrender and took part in Operation Magic Carpet to return servicemen to the States.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Don Lamanna. Lamanna joined the Navy in November 1942 and was transferred to hospital corps school in Alabama, where he tended to casualties of flight training. He then attended field medical school at Camp Elliot. Upon completion, he was assigned to a medical battalion in the V Amphibious Corps where he worked as an orderly in hospitals. He landed on Saipan on the eighth day of the invasion and worked at an abandoned Japanese hospital there. He recalls the staff worked 96 hours straight, triaging the wounded before they were sent aboard hospital ships. Natives were also enlisted to help at the hospital. Lamanna returned to Maui and tended to the 4th Marine Division casualties at a hospital there. Next, he went to Iwo Jima and landed four days after the invasion. There the wounded were treated in tents on the beach. After working at a hospital in Sasebo, Japan, supporting the occupation forces, Lamanna boarded the ATA 197, picking up troops from the Philippines and China. He returned to the States and worked at the naval hospital in Oakland until his discharge in 1948.

Interview with Louis Romero Jr., who carried on the Mexican food business and Tortilla Factory started by his grandmother, Delphina Torres, in Kerrville. The interview discusses his family history, upbringing, the development of Torres, a Mexican restaurant, his grandmother's sending canned tamales to World War II troops, military service, and family. Photographs and documents relating to the interview follow the transcript text.

Recording of an elicitation about modal operations in Mankiyali. The goal is to determine how the language distinguishes a speaker's certainty or belief of what will happen in a given situation. English sentences are used as prompts. The contributors are Aurangzeb (a 34-year old male teacher) and Gohar-Ur Rehman (a 38-year old male shop owner).

Recording of a discussion about permissible consonant clusters in Mankiyali. The purpose is to analyze the structure of the Mankiyali syllable. The contributors are: Aurangzeb -- a 34-year old male and a teacher by profession, and Gohar-Ur Rehman -- a 38 year old male and a retail shop owner by profession.

This is a conversation primarily with Mr. Akhlaque. After recording some conversations in Rāmpūr village, the researcher learns the language of the Muslims to be Bhojpuri and almost the same as that of the Hindu population, unlike that in Fatehpūr. He then moves near to Mr. Akhlaque to enquire about this. Mr. Jameel then joins the conversation and adds his opinion on the ongoing topic.

This is a discussion about the language and language varieties spoken in the districts of the Pūrvānchal region of the state of Uttar Pradesh, such as Maū, Balliā, and Āzamgaṛh. The speaker Mr. Maqsood Khan initiates with a short monologue on the election season in his mother tongue Bhojpuri spoken in his village Jogarī. He then proceeds to the varieties spoken in the region as he seems to have excellent knowledge on the same. The monologue then turns into a discussion about the differences of culture and language of Āzamgaṛh and Maū. It then shifts to the state of Urdu in India.

This is a conversation in (Pharaī) Chāndpūr village situated in the Maū district of UP, between Irfan Ahmad Usmani, Maaz Shaikh and his uncle Saeeduz Zafar Ali. The conversation begins with a discussion on the variety of Azamgarhi spoken in this village and continues to the Azamgarhi language and thereafter to the different local vernaculars spoken in Eastern UP and Bihar. Further, Mr. Usmani describes the village, its iconic location due to it being situated near the banks of a tributary (Pharaī in Azamgarhi) of the Ghāgrā river, and its unique tongue. Then, the conversation moves on to a discussion on relatives. Later on, his sister too joins the conversation.

This is a monologue, in the Eastern dialect of Azamgarhi, on a degree college in Rōpanpūr village by the name Rahmāniyā P. G. Degree College established by late Haji Muneer Khan Sāhab. The speaker Mr. Zakir gives information on the history and establishment of the college and its importance to Rōpanpūr village and the nearby villages. Further, he also talks about Rōpanpūr village and his educational background.

This is a conversation primarily with Mr. Jameel, the former and currently contesting Pardhān (village head) of Rāmpūr village. Mr. Jameel explains to Maaz the presence of dichotomy in speech among the population of Azamgarh and the variety spoken in Rāmpūr and other nearby Muslim-dominated villages. In the last part of the recording, Mr. Jameel talks with a villager who passes by.

This is a monologue on the Pardhānī (village head) elections in Rāmpūr in the Bhojpuri language. The elections were approaching closer at the time of recording, and the speaker Mr. Jameel who was the ex-village headman of Rāmpūr was contesting this time too. He speaks on the history of these elections and his contesting of the same. He then moves on to give information on Rampur village, its demography, and nearby villages.

This is a conversation where Mr. Satsri Mangal, a resident of Chaudhrīpūr in Rāmpūr village, places his demands before Mr. Jameel, the former and currently contesting Pardhān (village head) of Rampur. Mr. Jameel listens to his demands, and then Mr. Satsri Mangal narrates some incidents. After that, Mr. Jameel starts a conversation with the village children who were playing cricket a while ago and gathered around the recording place after noticing some recording taking place.
