Behind them, a series of tall leafless trees can be seen, as well as a single-story structure in the very center at the top of a hill. There is printed text on the front that reads "47 Battalion 23rd Engineers, Glen Bernie, MD. Feb. 1918." There is a black arrow near the top of the image pointing at an individual, identified as Arnold G. Knock. This information is verified on the back of the postcard, on which Arnold himself, under the "correspondence" heading, wrote: "I am in this picture the arrow point is our my head Did you receive my letter Hoping to hear from you soon This is my address Arnold G. Knock, Laurel Maryland, Truck Co #10 23 Engrs. [sic]" He has addressed the postcard on the left and right to an Emilie Andersen at "El Campo, Texas. D. S. R. #55."

This is the first day & it is quite interesting. We came to Aberdeen tonite. My address here is- Bomb Disposal School, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. Woodrow."

Aten says "Howdy- I arrived at camp at 12:00 which is the usual time. Joe, the feathered hat man, is being laid off his job this weekend for they are finished. It was rather warm sleeping last evening. Just had breakfast- cantaloupe, toast, dried beef and post toasties bran flakes. The apples smell good in my locker. Can't say when I will be home, maybe Friday evening. If so I will have a ride. Woodrow."

Have had many visits and this state in the past." The hotel is described as "One of the truly famous hotels of America. Recently completed a modernization program, but still retains and atmosphere in keeping with its tradition."

The back of the postcard adds, "The Stafford - a Baltimore Tradition Flanked by the city's finest homes, looking out upon Mount Vernon Place, famed for its cuisine and old-time hospitality, The Stafford has long been headquarters and home for famous travelers from all parts of the world."

Postcard with a poem describing Barbara Fritchie, who was a pall bearer at George Washington's sham funeral and waved the American flag while Confederate soldiers overtook her hometown. An excerpt of the poem reads: "Up on the meadows rich with corn, Clear in the cool September mourn, The clustered spires of Frederick stand, Green-walled by the hills of Maryland..."

The letter on the back reads, "Dear Mamie, I received your card yesterday and was so glad to get it but I can not come in as it is on Friday and I cannot leave then. I wish you girls would come out and see us. Aileen Lovejoy is going to try and come to see you all Monday but I can't come with her. Lots of love, Zilee." The postcard is addressed to "Miss Mamie McFaddin Gunston Hall Washington, D. C."

Postcard of a marble statue of Jesus Christ with arms open. The back describes the postcard as the following, "This heroic statue of "The Divine Healer" was presented to the John Hopkins Hospital in 1896 by Mr. William Wallace Spence. It is a replica of the famous work of Bertel Thorvaldsen which was placed in Copenhagen. The white figure was carved from a block of Carrara marble with this lettering at the base of the statue -- "Come unto me all ye that are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest."
