Color tinted halftone postcard of the arrival of natural gas in Marshall, Texas, from Caddo Field. It is a dramatic nighttime view of a crowd standing in front of the Harrison County courthouse looking at a large flame atop a high gas standpipe anchored by wires to the ground. The caption at the bottom of the image describes the event: "Arrival of natural gas in Marshall from Caddo Field, May 24, 1909. Length of pipe line 25 miles, pressure 185 pounds. Marshall Gas Co., Marshall, Texas. Parker-Corti Photo." The postmark on the back is dated 1909, and the writer claims to have been among the crowd in the image. It is addressed to Mrs. John T. Gose, Shelbina, Missouri. Printed on the left edge of the back: "Made by Chilton Printing Co., Phila., Pa., U.S.A.
