[Sarah Newton Bogel]

In this photograph, a young woman in a long, white dress decorated with ruffles and wearing a matching bonnet and gloves is posing for a portrait. She appears to be standing on a very small flight of stairs (only two or three) next to an intricately carved wooden railing. Her right hand is stretched out to hold a basket of flowers perched on a carved post at the top of the stairs. In the background there is a tree outside a window, and a wall decorated with carvings and climbing ivy. On the back of the photograph, a handwritten note reads, "Mrs. W. W. Bogel (Sarah Newton) about 1876 probably in San Antonio."
