[Response to Stress]

Photographs of the 2011-2012 artist's book competition winner "Response to Stress" created by Catherine Snapp Lavoie. The books contains no text. It is an accordion-fold book with five panels of double card stock joined together with one piece of cloth running in between the two layers of the panels. The verso and recto of each panel features collages in pastel earth tone colors. Pieces of crochet thread are applied to both recto and verso of the three panels. One panel has thread on the verso, the remaining on the recto only. The book is housed in a clam shell box that is covered in two-tone letterpress paper. The first image is the book opened up showing the pattern on the panels that are splashes of tan/yellow colors, stretched out in front of the case with a splotch of tan over it. Image 2, the stretched out panels and case seen from the top. Image 3, the open panels of the book are seen from the front, the yellow/tan splotches more visible with thread over it and propped on top the box.

[A Christmas Carol/Christmas with Dickens, Christmas books]

Photograph of four copies of holiday books including three of "A Christmas Carol" and one of "Christmas with Dickens," held by UNT Special Collections. The back brown book on the left is a copy of "A Christmas Carol" with the title stamped on the spine in gold and there is a nature-themed design with it. [Mini Christmas books, JOY]

Photograph of four mini Christmas books. On the left is a red book with the title "Christmas with Dickens" and a lit candle stamped on the front in gold. [Stack of mini Christmas books, JOY]

[Kodak Monitor Six-16 camera standing]

A photograph of a Kodak Monitor Six-16 camera from the Byrd Williams Family Photography Collection, held by UNT Special Collections. It is resting on one side of the casing and has the bellows extended. There is a little platform with a kickstand beneath it to support the weight and hold the lens level. [Surveying transit tool]

Two photographs of a surveying transit tool from the Byrd Williams Family Photography Collection, held by UNT Special Collections. The first image is of the tool alone, pointing to the distance at an angle so that a majority of the parts are visible. It is made out of a bronze material with glass parts and it is attached to a wooden base. The second image is of the tool and the box that it is stored it. The box has leather on the outside and straps and buckles with metal attachments. It is clearly old and has aged and fraying spots.

[Botany illustrations in James Newton's herbal book]

Photographs of the illustrations in a book titled "A Compleat Herbal of the Late James Newton, M.D. Containing the Prints and English Names of Several Thousand Trees, Plants, Shrubs, Flowers, Exotics, & c." held by UNT Special Collections. There are four rows of the drawings with names written above each. The plants on the two pages are "Tufted Meadow, Corn, an Panick Grass" and "Wheat Rie and Oate Grass". [Cracked spine of Bleak House]

Photograph of 'Bleak House' held by UNT Special Collections. It is a novel written by Charles Dickens and the illustration is done by Hablot K. Browne. The spine and cover are done in a maroon color and the material on the spine is cracked down the middle. The top and sides are also worn down and fraying. There are painted gold lines breaking up the spine into five separate chambers and the title is printed in gold in the second one.

[NTSNC bulletin open on book cradle]

Photographs of a cross section of one the NTSNC bulletins held by UNT Special Collections. It is one of four that are bound together in a single volume. Image 1, a list of officers separated by the organizations they are a part of. Image 2 and 3, a handwritten note at the top reads "Organized Oct. 12, 1902" and lists the two sponsors of the Mary Arden Club and the Current Literature Club. Image 4, the pages on the left are weighted down by a heavy string and there is a stamp on the title page that reads "North Texas State Teachers College Library" and a small note at the bottom of the page that reads "Application made for entry as second-class mail -- at Denton Postoffice."

[Stains between the pages of John Murray's Handbook]

Photographs of stains between the pages in "A Handbook for Travellers in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden" held by UNT Special Collections. In the first image the pages are opened to a passage about Denmark and the stain is mirrored on both sides of the seam. It is from a pressed flower that was placed between the pages on someone's travels. In the second image the pages are also about Denmark but the stain shows the details of a different plant with what appears to have been leaves and some petals.
