Exterior view of the City of Denton Fire Department and City Hall on West Oak Street between Cedar and Bolivar Streets. This was the fourth fire station in Denton and the department moved there in 1890. There are a number of unidentified men standing in front of fire station along with a horse-drawn hook and ladder wagon and a horse-drawn chemical wagon. The two white horses were Nip and Tuck. The ladder wagon was pulled by black and white horses, George and Henry.

Written in blue on back of photo. "Laying the first base for the paving of E. Hickory St in 1910. This picture was made looking North on Ash-Carrier-Austin with Hickory St. East to West with the Z-Higg's crew doing the work. Z Wiggs 2nd from the right other men unknown at this time-those tracks are part of the 57 car line with G Oak in the Distance. " The year 1972 is at the end of the message which we presume is the year the message was added.

Photograph of George Washington "Wash" Florence and his wife Beulah Mae Prater with their children Howell and Gus standing in front their home which was located at Garden Valley and Lindale Road in Tyler, Texas. The house had a breezeway running through the middle with what appears to be a fireplace on the left and possibly, the living quarters on the right. A full-length porch can be seen in front of the house and a separate building on the left. Wash made his living as a farmer until his death in 1919 due to Spanish Influenza. Beulah, left with two children, had to sell the farm and became a seamstress. She was the daughter of Richard Wesley Prater and Margaret Almeda Harpole. The library has more photos of the Prater family.

Maggie is the elder daughter. All of them are buried in the Jackson Cemetery in Krum, Texas.

The cars are standing at the diverging point for the lines at the intersection of Elm and Hickory streets. The streetcars were made by the Danville Car Company.

Frame home with Mr. and Mrs. Z. Wiggs and three children, Rua, Noah, and Grace, in the yard. Written on the back, "The Wiggs family home located at 218 Blount St. in 1912 with Mr. & Mrs. Wiggs and 3 of their children Rua, Noah, and Grace (Grace who was later killed in 1925 in an early car wreck in the western part of Denton County). Blount St. no longer exists, but it used to run north-south from McKinney to Sycamore Street.

Several Poses of C. A. Williams

Six different head-and-shoulder portraits of C. A. Williams printed very small on one piece of photographic paper. Very likely a proof sheet. Charles Alexander Williams was born in Arkansas in 1832 and died in Denton County in 1922. He was Sheriff of Denton County from 1856-1858, and then once again from 1866-1867.
