Photograph used for a story in the Oklahoma City Times newspaper. Caption: "Even Hemingway couldn't have dreamed a better plot about Africa and its beasts than the life story of one rare creature now inhabiting Lincoln Park Zoo. Luka and Makubwa, a pair of mountain gorillas, are so extremely rare that their presence alone is cause enough for wide-mouthed looks. But Luka survived an epic experience of violence in the Congo they day that country celebrated its new independence in blood. Species Vanishing Mountain gorillas, like North American whooping cranes, are a vanishing species. There are only seven in capativity in the world, four in the United States. The other U.S. pair, in the Bronx Zoo in New York, are so widely seperated in age that Lincoln Park's became a set of unique possible breeders.
