The text on the photo reads: "General Orders number 81 July 27, 1945 Award of the Bronze Star Medal to : Eugene J Ward 32523540, Technician Fifth Grade (then Private First Class), Company B, 17th Armored Infantry Battalion, for Heroic Achievement on 31 March 1945 in the vicinity of Boxberg Germany. During an attack on Boxberg an order was given to bring ammunition up on foot as it was deemed impossible to drive a vehicle through the enemy artillery barrage, Technician Fifth Grade Ward, driver of the ammunition Half-track, voluntarily loaded his Half-track with ammunition and drove it successfully through intense fire to the designated positions. This action was strongly instrumental in successfully carrying out the attack. Entered military service from New York, New York".
