Photograph used for a story in the Daily Oklahoman newspaper. Caption: "Here's the newest experiment in the never ending search for durable street markings. This distinctive pattern of cross walks. Stop and lane lines was put down Tuesday at Grand and Robinson. It is asphalt floor tile, found in many homes and stores. The nine by nine inch squares were cut in half and cemented to the road. Two test patches put down on N Robinson at NW 3 two years ago have shown little wear. If the markers hold up the traffic department will compare cost of converting its paint program to the more durable markings."

Photograph used for a story in the Daily Oklahoman newspaper. Caption: "Thirteen thousand teachers here for convention, plus a bus strike, combine to help make this traffic scene Friday. The picture was made on Main street, at Robinson, looking west. Many of the cars belonged to teachers from Vinita and Mangum, from Fairview and Aniters. There were times during peak traffic periods when transportation went into slow motion. Walking was faster than driving for distances of only a few blocks. Even the "Free Ride" drivers scowled a bit when asked to brave cross-town traffic. But the general feeling was : convention comes just once a year and the bus strike - well, it's "just one of those things."

(O-10-6-51 or O-12-30-51 article) City residents will scramble for rides Saturday as the twice-delayed bus strike goes into effect. Company and union officials broke off negotiations Friday after drivers and mechanics turned down a contract recommended by the union negotiation committee. All night schedules were ordered continued to normal stopping times early Saturday, but new schedules due out of the barns at 4:30 p.m. will not roll. It will be the fifth mass transportation stoppage in the city's history, and the second time in the last 18 months......The six union members of the contract committee and international represemtative Art Steele recommended acceptance of the last company offer.
