The variable width strips are now planted to a winter cover crop of wheat which will be plowed under and planted to sowed cane as a close growing erosion resistant crop.

Photograph of planting oats on the coutour in a terraced field with a deep furrow drill. The first time though the field one end of the drill followed the ridge line of the terrace. Thw other end in the bottom of the water channel. Second time through one end of the drill is still inthe water channel.
