Alabama Land Deed with President Buchanan's Signature

Photograph of a Alabama land deed for 220 acres belonging to Garrison Deens. it is signed by President James Buchanan on November 1, 1858. Mr. Deens sold this land to James O. Sellers in 1859 or 1860. Mr. Sellers was Ethel Bryant's grandfather. This photo was included in a research paper by Mike Shurley for an American History class at Marfa High School in 1968.

A photograph of a monument dedicated to the Civil Rights Movement in Selma, Alabama. The left side reads "I Had A Dream; They gave their lives to overcome injustice and secure the right to vote for all Americans; James J. Reeb, Boston; Viola Gregg Liuzzo, Detroit; Jimmy Lee Jackson, Marion, Alabama; Dedicated August 11 1979; This was the starting point of the march from Selma to Montgomery March 21, 1965; Project conceived and edited by Executive Secretary Robert H. Miller 1896-1979". The right side of the monument has a bronze bust of King on top and reads "DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. The demonstrations that led to the most important advance in civil rights for millions of black Americans began here March 21, 1965. A small cross in a circle is engraved at the top of the marker. This marble grave marker was obtained by T. Bradford Willis from the Veterans Affairs, and he placed it at the grave of William W. Willis.
