Photograph used for a story in the Oklahoma Times newspaper. Caption: "Thirty-one years ago Wednesday, America sorrowed at the news that the beloved President McKinley had died, victim of a propaganda-mad assassin. Former OKC city clerk John Morgan Stewart, now a private detective, was a witness to the fatal shooting, within speaking distance of the president during the whole chaotic event. Stewart was a member of the Treasury Dept. secret service in 1901, and had received favor with the commander in chief after an incident in Tennessee in 1897, in which he physically carried Mrs. McKinley to medical help after she fainted during the Tennessee Centennial event that year. Pres. McKinley had promised to do Stewart "a favor" anytime he was to call on him."
