Caption: "First construction on a giant micro-wave system which will bring coast-to-coast "live" television to Oklahoma City has been started. Steel workers began construction on a 15-foot tower atop the 16-story Southwestern Bell Telephone building. The tower will serve as a base for four huge antennas to be used in the transmission and receiving of microwaves. These antennas will be erected later this month. Telephone engineers say the four cone-shaped devices are 10 feet square and weigh 1,400 pounds. Two antennas will be faced north for sending and recieving signals from Kansas City. Tow others will be beamed at Dallas. Plans call for two more antennas to be installed eventually and aimed at Tulsa. Although the radio system will bring "live" television to Oklahoma City, telephone officials point out the purpose of the $6 millions installation is for more long distance channels. Micro-wave will provide six sending and recieving channels each to Kansas City and Dallas. Each channel can carry 600 message per second, or a total of 3,600 circuits. One channel will be used by television, and the other five will be for telephone. This will give Bell a …
