Farming Equipment and Methods

Photograph of Hugo Nika (left) and R.E. Daniels [right] examine seed on blue panicum. The 2-row plantings of blue panicum, alternating with 40 ft. strips (12 rows) of clean-tilled land, serve as windbreaks to protect fields from wind damage. Strong winds in spring move soil and so "sand blast" young crops, causing severe damage. Farming is on a contour. These perennial grass strips have been very effective. They were planted in the Fall of 1951. TX-48-262.

The courthouse itself has a flat roof and is made of dark red bricks and is accented with white stone, sitting on the lawn with its longest side facing towards the left edge of the photo. An entrance in the form of a tall white arch is positioned in the center of the longer side of the building and has four columns rising across all three of the building's floor to support a rectangular pediment projecting out from the wall a short distance. The building has on both of its visible sides, a row of small windows along its bottom edge and three rows of taller windows across the remainder of the structure's width. White stone lines the bottom edge of the building and forms lines around the building, one running at the same height as the columns' bases while the other is positioned at …
