Studie VIIb

Access: Use of this item is restricted to the UNT Community
Recording of Lucien Goethals's Studie VIIb. Six groups of 24 frequencies, chosen in the tempered system, undergo 12 transformations of amplitude and duration. The succession of the 72 variants of the basic groups is determined by the random element of the programmer, by means of which this study was carried out. During the production, the multiple possibilities of this programmer significantly contributed to enriching the sound result, which the composer decided to distinguish between the compositional level, now called Studie VIIb, and the new version, resulting from the achievement.

Ready Made

Access: Use of this item is restricted to the UNT Community
Recording of Eugeniusz Rudnik's Ready Made. This piece constitutes a palette of various sounds arranged in different ways. In the years 1970-72 I had collected various sounds, mainly short episodes (4-5 sec). Recorded on a magnetic tape. The decision of which were the best acoustic events worthy of re-use was based on their contrast with usual sounds. The second criterion of choice was based on links between the history of the recording studio and the music itself. According to these principles the composer assembled more or less 2 hours of musical material, which afterwards was several times selected and organized in order to be able to build the whole of this piece. The event is exposed in the time essential for human perception of its voice and afterwards should disappear to make way for another. Nothing is taken back. It's a collage without quotes. The whole piece could be summed up in a single sentence: "the goal of all this being to approach sea fish towards mountain regions". The rustles are designed in a form of pastiche to imitate the style of certain pieces composed in the early days of electronic music. "Ready made" (the title) is a term created …

Mordre La Terre Vivante

Access: Use of this item is restricted to the UNT Community
Recording of Nicole Lachartre's Mordre La Terre Vivante. In the first part, a large number of quasi-linear paths intertwine to create a semi-fluid mass that is sometimes even almost amorphous. This is followed by a section worked into a precisely sculpted dynamic profile and contrasting rhythmic formulas are introduced at times by a wide variety of instruments including various percussions over which an almost classical solo voice hovers. Then the strict rhythmic formulas are temporarily destroyed by aggressive material introduced in overprinting whose pitches and durations have been determined stochastically.

Natural – Cultural

Access: Use of this item is restricted to the UNT Community
This was conceived in 1973 and finalized in this form in 1983 (at Electroacoustic Music Studious from Gent and Bucharest). In 1985 it received the International Confederation of Electroacoustic Music (C.I M.E.) prize. Natural – Cultural is a spectral archetypal music. It suggests the Bib Bang, the initial Explosion, the Cosmic Birth of Universe (of Galaxies), of Nature, the Creation Moments in 6 biblical days, the appearance of the 4 existing kingdoms: mineral, vegetal, animal (insects, birds, animals) and human. This process develops on an egg spiral (archetypal form) which begins on central sound G (the 6-th harmonic) in a c o n t i n u o u s evolution to acute and deep searching for acute E (the 80-th harmonic) and deep D, the FUNDAMENTAL sound. We witness the growth of a “sonorous tree”, the “life tree”, the Archetype of the archetypes, which yields till the end (in the 7-th day), cultural “fruits”, a s c e n d a n t melodies played by a piano. This work will be broadcasted into vast spaces (wit many loudspeakers), as ambient music, on the top of a mounting or at see shore, or inside an astronomic observer at sunrise …

Fresca

Access: Use of this item is restricted to the UNT Community
Recording of Liviu Dandara's Fresca. Fresca synthesizes folk sound phenomena that accompany the daily events of Romanians. There are three intensity curves, proportionally equal. They correspond to the songs/signals of work, funeral music, and love songs. The dynamic culmination is reached in the same section, which interferes with the space and time of the folk festival. The final represents the filtering of a reverberation of the culmination of the work, accompanied by fragments of the motive-echo, which suggests permanence.
