Soil Conservation Service program started in 1954 on this farm with irrigation surveys being made on 27 acres. Adequate water source was not found until 1956. Two sources now being developed. Until recently this ranch was one of our examples of proper use. Droughts of 1954, 1955 and 1956 reduced the carrying capacity of the range so that it is now badly overgrazed. Mrs. J. H. The barren areas paralleling some windbreaks are not always due to sapping—incomplete patterns permit heavy, sterile sand to drift up to the windbreak on exposed sides. This situation can eventually be remedied by completion of the pattern and the planting of legumes on damaged areas. TX-79, 510.
