From abstract: Detailed petrologic investigations were conducted at 74 anomalies that have surface radioactivities of 5 to 300 times background in the Grandfather Mountain region of North Carolina and Tennessee. One or more specimens of radioactive rock and one specimen of nonanomalous (barren) rock were taken for chemical analysis from each of the 74 sites.

Report on survey of three North Carolina streams for width, depth, and substrate type at 50.4 meter intervals at low water. Monthly fish samples and rotenone samples also collected.

The following report provides information and results of an investigation on heavy mineral concentrates available in the placer deposits of North Carolina during the summer of 1946.

Appendices containing chemical analyses of rock samples in the Grandfather Mountain Region in addition to uranium occurrence reports to accompany a report on U.S. uranium resources in North Carolina and Tennessee.

In first major section are presented a brief historical account of the work done by other organizations prior to November, 1957, and a detailed description of the experiments conducted by Battelle with the No.4 and No. 5 stills. The second major section summarizes the results of cost studies. The third major section gives data, calculations, and derivations pertaining to the heat-transfer aspects of the Hickman still."
