Caption: "Fire destroyed an abandoned bakery at 816 N Hudson early Thursday, and 3 persons living in upstairs apartments died in the flames. The victins were indentified as: Miss Verna Campbell, 53, a resident of an upstairs apartment. Harold Morrison, 52, another resident. Lonnie Schultz, who was visiting Morrison. The blaze broke out during a rainstorm about 3 a.m. Haskell Graves, fire chief, said the first alarm was recieved at 3:11 a.m. Clocks inside the building stopped at 3:09. One Escapes Death When firemen arrived the entire 2-story brick structure was enveloped in flames. A 4th person, David Stephens, escaped. He was awakened by flames in a downstairs warehouse. He told Bob Simmons, son of the building owner, he escaped down a stairway then turned to see the building envolped in flames.....Miss Campbell suffocated, firemen said. Her body was found huddled under a rug near a window. The remainder of the floor in her apartment had burned away...Furniture was stored in the downstairs portion of the building, which formely was a bakery. There were 4 apartments upstairs, but 1 was used as a real estate office by Morrison and …
