Letter from S. C. Page to friend discussing her travels to hospitals to tend to wounded soldiers from Louisiana. She took with her sacks of clothes and letters and gave money when she could. She was appalled at the injuries she saw and the lack of clothing some men received while they were hospitalized. Page went to multiple hospitals and introduced herself to the Louisianan soldiers to give them company. She earned the nickname "Lady Bountiful" during her travels.

Patent for a new and improved cotton-press. This design "is to so construct a press that the force shall be applied solely by the pulling action of the screw, and so that the cotton can be put in at the top of the box and compressed without the usual tramping of the same therein by an operative preparatory to applying the force of the press, thereby doing away with a door or opening near the top of the box for inserting the cotton, and dispensing with the tramping operation" (lines 32-42).

Patent for improvements in rotary engines to allow for the expansion of steam after admission and minimum leakage in order to provide an engine that is capable of long-continued use with a minimum of wear and working friction (lines 15-22), including illustrations.

She closes the letter by noting that she hopes to hear from Mary Ann and the white family soon. The envelope is included with the letter.
