Letter from John C. Wallis to J. D. and D. C. Giddings. Wallis begins his letter by saying he is writing in response to the brothers' taking of the Chadwick case upon writ of error and requests that they send the bona for him to sign. Wallis describes his financial distress and his reluctance to pay his liability. He has even considered selling out the University under the Deed of Trust to a Mr. Browning and himself in order to settle the matter. He asks for the brothers' advice on this matter and for details about payment to E.J. Fettock.

This design consists in "[t]he combination, with the vertical post or upright having guideways formed therein, and the horizontally-disposed shaft having the pinion secured thereon, of the slidable block or frame, the rack-bars pivotally secured to the lower end thereof and having oppositely-projecting teeth, and the spring connected to the lower ends of said rack-bars" (lines 68-75).

This design is "to provide a plow adapted for steady and easy running, capable of combining therewith various styles of shovels or shears, and so constructing said plow as to be readily adjusted to form furrows of varying depths" (lines 9-14). This design consists, "with the beam and the loosely-depending standard provided at its lower end with a shovel, of the angular brace pivoted at its angle to the standard, adjustably connected at its upper end or branch to the beam, and having its lower end adapted to travel along the furrow in rear of the shovel" (lines 7-14).
