Nachricht für Auswanderer

Newspaper clipping regarding the settlement in Texas. First portion (front side) is signed by W. D'Hanis & Co. and dated March 1846 from Antwerp. Second portion (front side) mentions Haby's return to Europe to take his family back to Texas and is signed Huth & Co. and dated March 25, 1846 from Neufreystaedt. Second clipping (reverse side) has two sections: First section is part of a letter commending the character of a vicar. The second section relates the story of four lumberjacks who found a stash of gold presumed buried during the French Revolution. They turned it over to the owner of the land, who had it distributed amongst the poor of the community. The third, and last, section contains various small news items.

Collage of photos taken in Belgium in the mid 1940s. The photos on the first page are identified as "All three pictures: Scenes along Muse river in Liege, Belgium. Five of our group were here about half way between Liege Belgium and Aachen Germany. From here visited Brussels and Aachen Germany. We were supplying an engineering group building and air strip. We didn’t stay very long. The Germans began the battle of the bulge from Aachen coming our way. We and the engineers loaded up and went back to our units fast." The photos on the second page are described as "Left: A little Belgian girl with a dress made from an American flag. She was proud of it. I wonder what happened to her and her family. They were living where the battle of the bulge took place. Middle: Aachen Germany Far right: trolley that ran between Liege and Aachen Germany."
