Natural Drainage

Photograph of water running in a natural drainage in a well-sodded pasture. This was taken during a hard rain. The water in the grass is running clear showing very little, if any, silt is being carried by this water coming from a good sod. About an inch of rain fell in half an hour prior to the taking of this picture.

Overfall is Small Pasture

Stigler Project, Terrace Outlet Channel

Photograph taken in the rain shortly after an inch of water fell in half an hour, this picture shows a terrace outlet channel emptying onto a good pasture sod. It is evident how the water is spread out and allowed to filter away with no erosion or cutting effects.

Photograph of an UNIDENTIFED man watch water falling over a farm pond dam caused by both excess rainfall and not having an adequate spillway. The back of the photograph proclaims, “Water fulling over a farm pond dam. An adequate spillway was not provided for the dam and excess water must of necessity flow over the crest. The dam is cutting and will eventually be ruined. This picture was taken in the rain immediately after an inch of water had fallen in half an hour."
