In her response, Mitchell thanks Kruse for his remarks about her novel noting that she appreciated the help of librarians in her research while writing the novel. She states that she will not sign Kruse's copy of the book as she can no longer keep up with the high demand for autographs. The letter is signed "Margaret Mitchell Marsh" with her married name, Mrs. John R. Marsh, in parentheses. The letterhead reads "Margaret Mitchell" in blue ink.
