[Two souvenir plates on display]

Photo of two lithographic souvenir plates on display in the reading room of Kent State University Special Collections. They are part of the Crime-related Artifacts collection. The one on the left depicts a prisoner in front of a judge saying "Mr. Le Judge me cite deux temoins qui m'ont vu moi je lui en citreai plus de mille qui ne m'ont pas vu.", meaning "His Honor cites me two witnesses who saw me; but I will cite more that a thousand of them who didn't see me." The one on the right shows a man standing in front of an empty safe with hands on his head. The legend reads "Ou est le cassier?", meaning "Where is the cashier?" A group of attendees visited the archives on the first day of the 49th annual CSLA conference that was held at Kent State University from June 27-29 in 2016.

[Fire Station 8's Assistant Chief's Fire Engine]

Photograph of 4 uniformed firefighters standing in front of the Assistant Chief's fire engine. From left to right, the firefighters are: Clay, Watson, Cody, and Chief Meador. The fire engine is parked in the driveway of Dallas Fire Station 8, a brick building which is just barely visible on the left of the photograph. There are several trees beyond the fire engine, and beyond those, a residential neighborhood is visible. There are two small holes in the top of the photograph, one on the left and one on the right, as well as a yellow sticky note on the back, giving information about the photo.

[Cotton Baling Inside Mill]

Two near-identical images of a cotton baling press in use at a mill. A bale is at the front and a man is standing just behind it at left, near the machinery. There is a blur where the man moved during the exposure. Descriptive text printed below the images in the lower-right corner: "7722- Baling Cotton--a powerful press just releasing a 500-lb. bale--at a mill in Texas." The same text is printed on the back in six languages

Cafe Royal

Only a caption on the photograph identifies it as the Cafe Royal. This building that houses it, on the N.W. corner of NW 1st Avenue and 3rd Streets, was known as the W.E. Mayes Building. Upstairs rooms were rented under the name of the "Carlsbad Hotel" in recognition of the nearby Carlsbad Drinking Pavilion at the opposite (or NE) corner of the block: 700 NW 2nd Avenue. (The first edition of "Time Was in Mineral Wells", page 105, identifies it as the Wells Hotel.)
