Most of the legends were woven about Eugene Arnett, multi-millionaire insurance salesman and eccentric, who made it his home from 1916 until his death in 1938. You here thousdands of stories about the old 56-room office building "and most of them are true," says Leonard Glasgow, present owner. The fire Thursday afternoon fed on the timber in the west end of the structure and huge piles of rubble. Flames shot high into the sky and sent a pall of gray smoke over Warr Acres, Putnam City and Bethany........Fire Chief G. R. McAlpine first estimated damage at $40,000. He later explained he had based that on what it would cost to rebuild as the building once was. "Actually, Isuppose the old building has about served its usefullness and is probably worth whatever the salvage value might be, possibly $10,000," McAlpine said.
