Photograph used for a story in the Oklahoma City Times newspaper. Caption: "The straw smelled fresh and sweet Friday morning as the first head of livestock arrived and bedded down at the State Fair of Oklahoma. The first few exhibits at the children's barnyard fell into place to await the children who will begin to visit them Saturday. Only the horse barn remained completely empty 24 hours before fair starting time. Lines were long at the State Fair Arena as people sought tickets to the Ice Capades and the RCA-approved Rodeo and at the grandstand as others sought fair jobs from the trailer set up by the Oklahoma State Employnebt Commission. Photograph used for a story in the Oklahoma City Times newspaper. Caption: "The South Carolina consultants to Ling-Temco-Vaught's study of Oklahoma's technical-vocational education system don't pretend to know all the answers to the riddle of economic development. They do, however, have some impressive figures to indicate their state is one of the fastest growing around. (They'll be the first to say that they probably had the farthest to come in economic development.) Some saples: 1. The current South Carolina state budget is $578 million, more than twice the 1961 budget, with $280 million allocated to education (Oklahoma's 1967-68 budget is 177,214,448). 2. South Carolina expects a $40 million surplus in its state treasury this year. 3. Taxes have not been increased since 1959. 4. In percentage of growth in per capita income, South Carolina has been second in the nation the past two years. 5. Annual new plant investment rose from $210.7 million in 1962 to over $600 million in 1965. 6. More than 18,000 persons have been placed on jobs in 217 South Carolina plants in the past four years."
