Caption: "A spectacular oil pit blaze threatened the Double Eagle Refining Co., palnt at 1900 NE 1, for more than two hours Wednesday afternoon before being brought under control. Firemen estimated several hundred thousand gallons of waste oil stored in the refining company's pits up in smoke. Flames shot more than 200 feet into the air and darkened the Oklahoma City skyline wirh a black column of smoke 5,000 feet high. Police rushed 25 officers to the scene to handle the traffic jam which resulted when hundreds of curious attempted to go to the fire. Overpass id Closed The Eastern overpass was closed to traffic and railroad traffic in the vicinity was halted until the fire was brought under control. Cause of the fire could not be learned immediately. The fire department said an investigation is underway.
