The big box in the picture at left contains the remains of the nation's greatest athlete, Jim Thorpe. A Sac-Fox Indian, Thorpe was born in the rugged hills north of Shawnee some 11 miles. His football, track and baseball feats became legend. Nine strong men strained to transfer the box from the baggage car to a waiting hearse."
