Ike was given a copy of Joe's book, Back Home, when he was recovering from a heart attack he made this oil painting from the photo called "Pappy Says" in the book. We received a 4x5 color transparency of the painting along with a note from Ike saying he hoped Joe didn't mind that he made a copy of the Pappy Says picture and asked if Joe knew who the gentleman was. That really is my Pappy, Joe replied and he is recovering from a heart attack too. Ike and my grandfather did correspond and they both passed away about four years later.
