Evaluation of pathways to the C-glycosyl isoflavone puerarin in roots of kudzu (Pueraria montana lobata) (open access)

Evaluation of pathways to the C-glycosyl isoflavone puerarin in roots of kudzu (Pueraria montana lobata)

Article describes how kudzu produces both O- and C-glycosylated isoflavones, with puerarin (C-glucosyl daidzein) as an important bioactive compound. The authors go on to explain how expression of recombinant UGTs in Escherichia coli and candidate C-glycosyltransferases in Medicago truncatula were used to explore substrate specificities, and gene silencing of UGT and key isoflavone biosynthetic genes in kudzu hairy roots employed to test hypotheses concerning the substrate(s) for C-glycosylation.

Descriptive Complexity in Cantor Series

Article discusses how a Cantor series expansion for a real number x with respect to a basic sequence Q=(q), where qi≥2, is a generalization of the base b expansion to an infinite sequence of bases. The authors show that for any basic sequence the set of distribution normal numbers is Π03-complete, and if Q is 1-divergent then the sets of normal and ratio normal numbers are Π03-complete.

Using Machine Learning to Predict Genes Underlying Differentiation of Multipartite and Unipartite Traits in Bacteria

Article describes how, since the discovery of the second chromosome in the Rhodobacter spaeroides 2.4.1 in 1989 and the revelation of gene sequences, multipartite genomes have been reported in over three hundred bacterial species under nine different phyla. In this study, the authors have attempted to leverage machine learning as a means to identify the genetic factors that underlie the differentiation of bacteria with multipartite and unipartite genomes.

Deep Minimum and a Vortex for Positronium Formation in Low-Energy Positron-Helium Collisions

This article finds a zero in the positronium formation scattering amplitude and a deep minimum in the logarithm of the corresponding differential cross section for positron–helium collisions for an energy just above the positronium formation threshold. Results show that there is a valley in the logarithm of the positronium formation differential cross section that includes the deep minimum and also a minimum in the forward direction.

Multitask deep-learning-based design of chiral plasmonic metamaterials

This article presents an end-to-end functional bidirectional deep-learning (DL) model for three-dimensional chiral metamaterial design and optimization. This ML model utilizes multitask joint learning features to recognize, generalize, and explore in detail the nontrivial relationship between the metamaterials’ geometry and their chiroptical response, eliminating the need for auxiliary networks or equivalent approaches to stabilize the physically relevant output. This model efficiently realizes both forward and inverse retrieval tasks with great precision, offering a promising tool for iterative computational design tasks in complex physical systems. Other potential applications include photodetectors, polarization-resolved imaging, and circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy.
