Analysis of Pectin-derived Monosaccharides from Arabidopsis Using GC–MS

Article describes how pectin is a complex polysaccharide present in the plant cell wall, whose composition is constantly remodeled to adapt to environmental or developmental changes. Here, authors describe a quick and efficient gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS)-based method that allows the differential analysis of pectin monosaccharide composition in plants under different conditions or between mutant plants and their respective wild types.

Archive Activism: Memoir of a "Uniquely Nasty" Journey

Access: Use of this item is restricted to the UNT Community
Archive Activism is a memoir of activism rooted in a new way to converse with history—by rescuing it. Archive activists discover documents and other important materials often classified, “gone missing,” or sealed that somehow escaped the fireplace or shredder. It is an approach to LGBTQ advocacy and policy activism based on citizen archivery and original archival research to effect social change. Research=Activism is the formula growing out of Charles Francis’s personal story as a gay Texan born and raised during the 1950s and 1960s in Dallas. The rescues range in time and place from Francis’s first encounter with a raucous, near-violent religious demonstration in Fort Worth to attics loaded with forgotten historic treasures of LGBTQ pioneers. Archive Activism tells how Francis helped Governor George W. Bush achieve his dream of becoming president in 2000 by reaching out to gay and lesbian supporters, the first time a Republican candidate for president formally met with gay and lesbian Americans. This inspired Francis to engage with deleted LGBTQ history by forming a historical society with an edge, a new Mattachine Society of Washington, DC. For the first time, Archive Activism reveals how LGBTQ secrets were held for decades at the LBJ Presidential Library …

Breaking Down the Book: Literature Review and Practice of Book Digitization Methods [VRA 2023]

Presentation exploring book digitization practices and standards and share how they are implemented by the UNT Digital Projects Lab. With a large number of books flowing into their department, the authors decided to conduct research on the methods of scanning using the equipment and software available to them. This presentation reports on their findings and what factors went into deciding what type of books get scanned where and how. Results include changes to local digitizing standards and clarified workflows based on the types of books to be scanned. It was presented at the 2023 Visual Resources Association Conference held in San Antonio, Texas.

CICI: UCSS: Secure Containers in High-Performance Computing Infrastructure

Data management plan for the grant, "CICI: UCSS: Secure Containers in High-Performance Computing Infrastructure." Ensuring the security and privacy of high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructures is of utmost importance due to their handling of sensitive data and critical scientific computations. HPC infrastructures commonly employ containers, which provide lightweight and isolated environments for running applications. Nevertheless, containers in HPC infrastructures encounter security challenges, including insecure container images and vulnerabilities related to isolation. Existing container image scanners face a major challenge of low coverage, while current container runtimes struggle to ensure both security and performance for HPC workloads simultaneously. This project addresses these challenges by developing secure containers specifically tailored for HPC infrastructures. The project introduces innovative solutions, including the development of an efficient image vulnerability scanner and a secure container runtime.

Community-viable Family-school Partnership Intervention for Children with Social communication Deficits in Early Childhood Education

Data management plan for the grant, "Community-viable Family-school Partnership Intervention for Children with Social communication Deficits in Early Childhood Education." Early Childhood Education settings provide a natural and unique access point for addressing children’s unmet needs and barriers to care. The current research uses an established implementation science framework to adapt and implement an evidence-based Family-School Partnership Intervention (FPSI) to prevent developmental delays and barriers to learning among preschoolers with social-communication delays. FSPI is implemented by regular preschool staff and integrates Evidence Based Practices from education (i.e., strategies for establishing reciprocal partnerships with parents; Developmentally Appropriate Practice; National Association for the Education of Young Children) and clinical parent coaching interventions targeting social-communication deficits in toddlers with autism (Naturalistic Developmental Behavioral Interventions).

Diverse values of nature for sustainability

Article describes how, twenty-five years since foundational publications on valuing ecosystems services for human well-being, addressing the global biodiversity crisis still implied confronting barriers to incorporating nature's diverse values into decision-making. The authors assert that a better understanding of how and why nature is (under)valued is more urgent than ever.

Enhanced Photoluminescence and Prolonged Carrier Lifetime through Laser Radiation Hardening and Self-Healing in Aged MAPbBr3 Perovskites Encapsulated in NiO Nanotubes

Article describes how organic-inorganic perovskites hold great promise as optoelectronic semiconductors for pure color light emitting and photovoltaic devices. This paper investigates the laser radiation hardening and self-healing-induced properties of aged MAPbBr3 perovskites encapsulated in NiO nanotubes (MAPbBr3@NiO) using photoluminescence (PL) and fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIM). After deliberately subjecting the MAPbBr3@ NiO to atmospheric conditions for two years, the sample remains remarkably stable.
