From abstract: This study used a rainfall-runoff model to determine if land-use changes associated with surface mining in the Tug Fork basin have affected basin streamflow characteristics.

Report issued by the National Bureau of Standards over investigation of the collapse of a concrete cooling tower on Willow Island, West Virginia. Results of field, and laboratory tests are discussed. This report includes tables, illustrations, and photographs.

From abstract: This abbreviated data report presents results of ground water, surface water, and stream sediment reconnaissance in the National Topographic Map Series (NTMS) Bluefield 1* x 2 quadrangle. Surface sediment samples were collected at 886 sites, and surface water samples were collected at 595 of these sites. Ground water samples were collected at 1374 of these sites. Neutron activation analysis (NAA) results are given for uranium and 16 other elements in sediments, for uranium and 8 other elements in ground water, and for uranium and 9 other elements in surface water. Field measurements and observations are reported for each site. Analytical data and field measurements are presented in tables and maps.

Supplementary data containing tabulated reconnaissance data and elemental concentrations in ground water, surface sediment, and stream water samples, in addition to areal distribution maps, histograms, cumulative frequency plots, and frequency distribution plots for elemental concentrations. Also included are site location maps for surface and ground water samples and a user's guide. This data accompanies a report on hydrogeochemical and stream sediment reconnaissance in Virginia and West Virginia.
