Control of Airplanes at Low Speeds (open access)

Control of Airplanes at Low Speeds

Loss of control over the orientation of an airplane as the incidence approaches and enters the region of stalled flight is a prolific cause of serious accidents. This report discusses methods of landing at slow speeds approaching stall.

The Effect of Bow Stiffeners in Nonrigid Airships (open access)

The Effect of Bow Stiffeners in Nonrigid Airships

"It is now well known that all nonrigid airships constructed at the present time have bow stiffeners consisting of battens curved to the form of the envelope and designed to hold the nose of the ship in its true form despite the very large pressure which exists at the extreme forward point. The effect of the stiffeners is to reduce considerably the apparent pressure which has to be maintained inside the envelope in order to prevent the nose from caving in" (p. 1).

Hydrodynamic tests for determining the take-off characteristics of seaplanes (open access)

Hydrodynamic tests for determining the take-off characteristics of seaplanes

The resistance of water, even at low speeds, may be such as to render it impossible to take off. For this type of aircraft, it is therefore especially important to determine the take-off characteristics. A new and simple graphical method is given and appears to be the only one for the complete solution of the problem.
