Absorption of Organic Acids on Thoria
The adsorption of acetic and oleic acids on the surface of thoria was studied by means of infrared spectroscopy. An infrared analysis of the adsorbates before and after adsorption using differential double bean methods indicated that the adsorption of organic acids on thoria surfaces occurs by an esterification reaction between the organic acid and the hydroxylated thoria surface. Ammonia vapor will not adsorb on thoria, indicated the basic character of the hydroxylated surface.

Acute Radiotoxicity of Injected Yttrium91
Report describing results of experiments that involved injecting radioactive yttrium into animals: "The excretion, retention, and distribution of the yttrium was measured, and its effect on survival and growth was observed. The average total excretion of Y91 to the time of death (from 76 hours to 24 days) was a little less than 30 per cent of the injected dose" (p. 2).

Adsorption of Radioactive Gases on Activated Carbon
The purpose of this experiment is to study the quantitative adsorption characteristics of a carbon adsorber bed receiving a radioactive inert gas in a helium stream. An objective of the experiment is to measure the equilibrium transmission of the radio-active gas through a carbon adsorber in order to determine if radio-active decay of the adsorbed gas permits additional adsorption.

From introduction: Geodata International, Incorporated, conducted an airborne gamma ray and total magnetic field survey of a region of Northwest Texas which covered the Lubbock and Plainview Geologic Atlas Maps. The area shown on Figure 1 was surveyed from an aircraft using large-volume radiation detectors with computer-controlled airborne equipment. Analysis of Jet-Propulsion-Engine Combustion-Chamber Pressure Losses

By means of the chart, the pressure losses due to fluid friction and to momentum changes in the air flow accompanying combustion can be separately evaluated. This technical report constitutes a brief review of the work undertaken, entirely or in part, under the Contract AT(30-1)-1772 with eh United States Atomic Energy Commission. The work published during 1959 is listed at the end of this report and copies of the reprints or reports are attached where available. These investigations have been concerned with the examination of defect production and behavior as it may be observed by high frequency ultrasonic attenuation and velocity (modulus) changes in such materials as quartz, silicon, germanium, alkali halides (especially NaCl and XCl), high purity aluminum, and glass containing boron. The irradiations used are cobalt 60 gamma-ray irradiation and the reactor irradiation obtained in the Brookhaven National Laboratory graphite reactor.

Application of Heavy Media Separation, Flotation and Carbonate Leaching to Congo Ores
The investigation of magnesitic-dolomite uranium ores from Union Miniere du Haute Katanga, Belgian Congo, was undertaken in order to examine the possibility of separating the uranium minerals from the carbonate minerals by Heavy Media Separation or froth flotation; thus reducing the sulfuric acid consumption during the uranium leach. In addition, the effect of carbonate leaching the whole ore and carbonate flotation products was examined.

Boundary Disturbances in High Explosive Shock Tubes
Abstract: High Velocity disturbance are observed to propagate in advance of the plane shock front along the walls of a high-explosive-operated shock tube. Experiments were performed which indicate that the disturbance proceeds at a constant velocity relative to the shock front, and carries a considerable amount of energy as evidenced by its ability to penetrate metal plates. The velocity of a similar disturbance observed along a rod placed on the axis of the shock tube normal to the plane shock front was essentially independent of the rod material and diameter. This phenomenon was observed when shock tubes were filled with argon or chlorine but was absent when air or helium was used.
