Black and white halftone postcard showing the three-story Capitol Hotel in Marshall, Texas. The view shows the facade and one side, a three-story building to its left and part of the gallery of a building across the street. The Capitol Hotel has a balcony across the full facade on the second story level, and a shorter balcony in front of the three central windows at the third-story level, and a cast iron bracketed cornice at the top. Printed at the bottom below the image in black ink is the title "Capitol Hotel, Marshall, Texas." There is no postmark or message on the back.

Photograph of Sarah L. Slaughter Rankin (Mrs. John M. Rankin) (1818-1886). The portrait shows the sitter in a three-quarter pose from head to waist, and it is mounted on a carte de visite. Her hair is parted and pulled back behind her ears. She is wearing a dark dress with buttons up the front and a lace collar pinned at her neck. The photographer's imprint on the back of the card is: "J. H. Webster, Photograph Galleries, Marshall and Jefferson, Texas." Mrs. Rankin was a teacher in the private school run by her husband in San Augustine, Texas, in 1837 and 1838.

[Locke Home, Version 1]
Photograph of the Locke home, with two women and a dog seated on the front porch. Inscription in ink on the back states: "Locke Home, Fannin & Grove, demolished 1956." Version one shows slightly more of the right side of the house than Version two, and it is printed darker. The house is a one-story side-gable house of wood siding, two chimneys, and four slender square columns supporting ornate scroll-sawn decorative brackets. Two ferns are on stands on the porch, and a picket fence and two trees are in front of the house. The figure in back is Sarah Dycke Locke, and the figure in front may be Katie McAllister. Part of the bottom board of the mount has broken off.

[Marshall Candy Kitchen & Ice Cream Parlor Display Window]
Photograph of elaborate decorative display window of the Marshall Candy Kitchen & Ice Cream Parlor. At the base of the window approximately 50 small bottles of Welch's grape juice are arranged with three dolls behind and larger bottles of Welch's juice. More smaller bottles are on a glass shelf behind and above with decorative paper figures of children drinking juice and an arrangement of artificial grapes and grape leaves. The name Marshall Candy Kitchen & Ice Cream Parlor is painted on the glass of the display window. Impressed in the bottom of the mount board is the photographer's name: Cockrell Studio, Marshall, Texas. Two yellow paper notes have been stuck on the back by the seller confirming the subject and one of which gives the estimated date of ca. 1910. The Marshall Candy Kitchen is listed in the 1912 Marshall city directory.

Photograph of Sims McCutchan, Jr. and his wife Johnnie seated at a school fair booth, perhaps playing bingo. The structure of the temporary booth and stools are clearly visible. The photograph was taken in the evening. Mrs. McCutchan's purse sits on the counter next to her. Bare light bulbs provide light. [Marshall Texas Post Office February 26, 1940]
Photograph of the Marshall, Texas post office building taken by the Cowdin Brothers construction company of Dallas as part of their work on the building in 1940. Built in 1912, the post office received an addition and improvements in 1940. As noted in the Marshall News Messenger of 21 January, 1940, the work included enlargement of the lobby space, addition of new mail boxes, and enlarged work space. The building permit for the project was $71,000. Cars are parked in front of the building, a metal trash bin with triangular top is on the sidewalk, Army recruiting signs are standing on the corner of the lawn, and two piles of construction dirt are at the side of the building. A man is standing on the sidewalk and appears to be blind, holding a white cane, wearing a sign around his neck, and holding a tin cup in front of him. Typed on the back of the photograph: "Marshall Texas Post Office, February 26, 1940. This view from the center of intersection of So. Washington St. and the South side of the Square looking Southeast was taken same day progress report was made. Contractor: Cowdin Bros., Dallas, Texas. Rob't. E. Sellers, …

Postcard image of the front and west sides of the homes located at 799 and 703 W. Rusk Street in Marshall. Both house are two stories with steep, hipped roofs and a number of chimneys around the outer walls. The house on the right has a small extended room to the right of the front door with a decorative balcony above, and a window box over the door; the house at right has an extended porch across the full front of the home and a dormer window above the second floor, as well as striped awnings over the windows. A caption printed below the image says, "Residence--West Rush St., Marshall, Texas."

Photograph of two sides of a long, two-story building with a hipped roof and a series of evenly-spaced rectangular, paned windows. The right side of the building is partially open with square columns, as well as a staircase and a railing along the top floor. The long side of the building is facing a yard enclosed by a metal fence along a dirt road; there are backboards on posts and trees growing in the yard. Color tinted halftone postcard of the Texas & Pacific Railway Hospital, in Marshall, Texas. The image was probably taken not long after the building was opened in 1928, but this card was probably printed in the 1930s, based on the linen style paper. It was sent through the mails and postmarked on April 24, 1940. The view shows a drive in the foreground curving in front of the building. The building is a long horizontal two-story structure with a slightly projecting entrance section. Three automobiles are parked on the drive. Printed in the white border above the image is the title, "T. & P. Hospital, Marshall, Texas," and printed below the image is the code "2461-29." Printed between the message and address sections: "C. T. American Art, Reg. U. S. Pat. Off. Made only by Curt Teich Co., Inc., Chicago." The card is addressed to Mrs. Violet Swain in Austin, Texas.
