Because of the persistent problem of convenient determination of underground yield, Certain `electromagnetically` oriented ideas in this area are summarized. They all require much more detailed study and evaluation, although one or two of them are inexpensive enough to perhaps warrant an empirical test. Methods discussed are: Vertical sounding of the Ionosphere; The electromagnetic `Magnetic Bubble` scheme; Non-resonant scattering; Resonant scattering; and The gravitational pulse.

In September of 1965, a program was launched to investigate the cause and to determine appropriate corrective or preventive action for hydriding of Zircaloy process tubes in K Reactors. One phase of the investigation was specifically directed to the measurement of galvanic corrosion currents flowing between the Zircaloy process tube and the aluminum spacers. Production Test IP-807 authorized in-reactor galvanic test measurements in order to secure data relating to the hydriding problem. It is the purpose of this report to document all the galvanic corrosion current data recorded for tests in K Reactors during the investigation of the hydride problem. The galvanic potentials recorded for test measurements in the K Reactor process tubes, identifies the approximate location and magnitude of the corrosion currents generated between aluminum spacers and Zircaloy process tube. The flow of galvanic currents and subsequent release of hydrogen gas can be related to the hydriding of the Zircaloy tubes. The data enclosed in this report indicate a substantial amount of galvanic action in the downstream dummy section of the process tube. October performance of the plant production facilities was outstanding (915.2 tons U processed by Purex; 625.4 kg Pu separated by Redox/Purex). Redox processed three types of feed. Operation of incinerator furnace was resumed in Pu finishing processes. Capital cost estimates were prepared for several schemes for power reactor fuel reprocessing in Redox. Redox encased waste lines and line support system were found to be in good condition. H concentration in Redox dissolver off-gases occasionally exceeded lower flammable limits while sodium nitrate from high level waste storage tanks was used to suppress hydrogen.

Declassified 21 Sep 1973. A summary of the experiments associated with the three uniformly loaded core configurations related to the 710 Mockup 1 Critical Experiment Reactor is presented. These configurations mocked up specific features of the then current 710 reactor experiment design. The experimental areas included initial loading, neutron lifetime, fission ratios, reflector control methods, reactivity coefficients and power distribution measurements. A major portion of the effort was applied to the latter two areas to determine the comparative effects between normally used fuel cells composed of rod-type materials and homogeneous fuel cells using fabricated fuel compacts". 7 references. In Testing and Irradiation Service requested that the reactor coolant be sampled in an attempt to determine the amount of air evolution in the vicinity of the K downcomer. This letter includes the data which were obtained and conclusions drawn from analysis of the data.
