Compilation of data on 51 ruptured slugs
The following tabulation includes information on all uranium slug failures which have occurred through September 26, 1951. The four suspect slugs which are listed were discharged from tubes which gave strong indication of containing ruptures. Although no obvious rupture could be found among the slugs from these tubes, the listed pieces exhibited defects which may be incipient ruptures.

The Evaluation of Definite Integrals, and a Quasi-Monte-Carlo Method Based on the Properties of Algebraic Numbers
A formula is given for the approximate evaluation of multiple definite integrals using the ergodic property of a certain transformation of the unit cube into itself. Estimates of the rate of convergence are made for sufficiently smooth integrand. The work was motivated by a belief, that appeared at one time justified, that a substantial improvement of the accuracy of Monte Carlo method would result from use of the principles described herein. Although that belief proved groundless in numerical tests, it is deemed worthwhile to give this report of the work. Part of the theoretical development, the work of L.G. Peck, will be reported independently. (auth)

FURTHER RESULTS ON THE PRODUCTION OF NEUTRAL MESONS BY PHOTONS
Further measurements have been made on the photoproduction of neutral mesons using the gamma-gamma coincidence technique. New data have been obtained on the gamma-gamma correlation curves in beryllium. The angular distribution of the photo mesons in Be has been determined and found to be strongly peaked forward. The dependence on the atomic number A of production has been found to obey an A{sup2/3} law. Some data obtained for production in hydrogen show that the pi-zero and pi-plus production cross sections are comparable and that the pi-zero excitation curve starts more slowly from threshold than does the pi-plus photo excitation curve.

Insulating webbing between thermal shield and graphite reflector
The purpose of this document is to present the bases and calculations which resulted in the conclusion given in the letter of October 17. Also, the original calculations were made on the basis that the webbing face thickness is equal to 1/2 inch, which is no longer the case. The new thickness is 3/4 inch. This alters the condition of heat generation. Consideration is given to the heat generation in the legs.

Pile water modifications at DR and H Areas for increased production facilities
A detailed study was undertaken to investigate the feasibility of modifying the front and rear face piping at DR and H Areas to permit increased production rates. This study is in conjunction with a larger investigation concerning methods of increasing plant production facilities. The results of the subject study indicate that approximately one year would be required for the design, procurement, and delivery of critical materials, and that the estimated construction shutdown time to complete each unit is 50 work days on a three shifts basis. Although the length of time required to perform the proposed construction work is not in line with the planned 30 day shutdown period, it is believed that the 50 days reflected by this estimate is realistic and necessary. A critical material schedule, design schedule, construction schedule and force requirement charts are presented on pages 9 to 13 inclusive.
