The site (near the center of section 8, twp. 4-s, R. 3-W) was obtained from Frank Wilson of Lacon, illinois, by the partnership of Galt, Roy Johnson, Wirt Franklin and Sam Apple. Local ranchers and oil men incouraged him to construct a golf course in Ardmore. Dornick Hills is a result of a lot of time and money spent by Maxwell. He built more than 60 courses in his career, including Southern Hills in Tulsa and Twin Hills in Oaklahoma City.
