A crane is lifting a 70,000-lb steam drum in the center of the plane. The steam drum is part of a boiler at the steam power plant. The station was fully operational in May 1963 and an open house was held on June 2 of that year.

This photo was taken by the Raymond Crouch of the Denton Record-Chronicle and appeared in the newspaper in anticipation for the dedication and open house that would occur on Saturday, November 18, 1967. The event was semi-formal and lasted all day. The building was also open for the following Sunday. What you see is an exterior view of the front of the Denton Civic Center taken at night. The building was designed by architect, O'Neil Ford. Ceramic lamps made by Beaumont Mood, adorn the exterior wall and hang from the pergola. The carved wood doors were made by artisan, Lynn Ford.

Their uniforms were the same as that of the police officers because the Department did not want the public to be able to distinguish between Regulars and Reserves, as they both were sworn officers and had the same legal authority. The Fire Department helped in drowning as well, and had two certified divers who, if it became necessary, would help dive for the bodies. "That did not happen much as the water in the lakes and ponds was not clear and there was a multitude of hooks, lines, and other items that are very hazardous to divers."
