Transcription, translation and linguistic analysis of Mahida Murad reciting “Danlathas ke Baadsha” in the Hunza dialect. In this popular story a witch kills some princes and scares the king into marrying her. She took all of the King’s daughter-in-laws and stole their eyes, sealing them into a pit hidden away from the kingdom. The youngest raises her child, and he must save his mother and aunties. Shiri Badat was a legendary king of Gilgit who is claimed to have been very cruel and a cannibal who ate human babies. The story gives an account of how Shiri Badat's minister allied with a Persian prince, who married Shiri Badat's daughter, to have him killed. Khan claims that his ancestors are the progeny of the marriage between the Persian prince and Shiri Badat's daugher, whose name was Shamligas.
