[Rusty L-shaped carpenter's square]
Rusty L-shaped carpenter's square with the vertical part longer and wider than the horizontal part. The square is marked off in inches: outer edge, 24 in. horizontally and 16 in. vertically. The inside is marked 22.5 in. horizontally and 14 in. vertically. Straight down the middle of the longer part it is marked starting at 1 ending with 21in. The other side of the square is the exact same except for one marking in the corner where the two parts meet. STANLEY ____00 Made in the USA _5 Some of the writing is obscured by rust.

[Stanley Bailey No. 28 transitional fore plane]
Stanley Bailey No. 28 transitional fore plane. Has a beech wood stock with what looks similar to an iron plane screwed to the top. The front of the iron setting starts 5.2 cm from the face/sole and ends 6.2 cm before the heel. Between the iron and wood is a thin wooden board that has been cut into the shape of the iron piece. At the front of the iron is a mushroom shaped knob which is screwed on. The iron is not very wide here but gets wider towards the center where it takes on a rectangular shape. There is now a hole in the wood stock that is lined with iron. The front is straight but the back slopes upward so that the hole at the bottom is .7 cm X 6 cm and the top is 7.5 cm X 6 cm. Within this hole, from the back forward, is the frog, cutter, basic iron and lever cap. The lever cap has a diamond texture on the front. The frog has an adjustment screw. At this point the iron piece once again gets thinner but longer than the front. ON top of the iron is a cross between …

Photograph of "Alexander D. McNabb I, perhaps about 1885. Born May 4, 1854 and died February 20, 1911. He was the first child of John McNabb and Mary Smith McNabb. He is buried in Morton Cemetery in Richmond" as identified on back of photograph in pen. Photograph is of a young man with thin, dark hair and mustache. He is wearing a three piece (light colored) suit with different color (or perhaps fabric) trim on inside portion of lapel. He has on a white shirt and light colored bow tied tie. [A 1886 Drug Store]
Photograph of a 1886 Drug Store. The drug store is located in a two story brick building on the corner of a dirt street. The sign "Drug Store" on the northwest corner of the building, has a horse hitched to the support post. The front of the building has two glass box windows on either side of the double door entrance. Eight men are standing on the sidewalk near the front entrance. There is a man sitting in each of the four second story windows on the front side of building. A hitching post is on far left; two white wooden buildings on far right with the top of a two story brick building partially visible over the roof tops of the wooden buildings. Crazy Well, Mineral Wells, Texas
This is a picture of the first Crazy Well drinking pavilion, the first such facility in the city. When a Mr. Wiggins dug the third well in town, it was frequented by a "crazy woman" who was eventually cured of her dementia. Because of the word-of-mouth publicity, people came from miles around to drink the health-giving water. A house was built around the well for the convenience of the customers. The highly successful business attracted competition, and one of the most popular health spas in the nation grew from these beginnings.

In 1885, Palestine, like most of the country, was in the midst of a depression, complicated by a series of railroad strikes, so there was little new construction. However, Anderson County had to have a new courthouse because the old one was literally falling down. And they were determined to have the finest and most up-to-date building that could be constructed. The Architect that was hired was William C. Dodson of Waco and building commenced in June of 1885 after demolition was completed on the old building. It was completed in May 1886 at a cost of $40,000 and was indeed impressive looking with it's tall three story dome and clocktower. The life of the building was cut short when a couple of incendiaries set fire to it on the night of January 6, 1913, in order to destroy evidence against one of them. The plan failed because the actual court records were housed in fireproof rooms, which were not damaged.
